I travel at least 3 times a year to a beautiful holiday spots. For every journey I buy a few new pieces and combine them with the old one saving money, still looking good and can promise nobody even notices. Before I hit the shop and I know my holiday destination I think of clothes I’m going to need for a particular trip. HERE ARE SOME EXAMPLES of how I do that.
I have recently been on yoga retreat in a beautiful Andalucia.
How to pack for this kind of holidays
1. Before even going further with your wardrobe selection, check the weather, climate, surroundings, landscapes. You can never be sure hundred percent where you going to. The only thing you probably certain of will be your hotel you staying at. With the weather you can’t be sure either but is good to know what the average temperatures are and what sort of climate you mostly like to experience while you there. The only reason I am saying this is because temperature is one thing and climate is another thing. 35 degrees in Mexico with a tropical climate is not the same as 35 degrees in Spain in a dry climate. I ended up spending my Mexico holidays sweating like a pig in my dresses and getting cold in the evenings on a yoga retreat only because I thought with 30 degrees during the day, I will be all right without any cover up.
2. Everyone of us want to take amazing pictures when away If you like to take a unique pictures, check the places you gonna visit while you there. I have been travelling for the past 10 years. The first thing I always do before heading to the airport is to search the internet for places of interest. There is usually 2-3 places I really want to see, I never travel blind or choose the destination of my holidays only because. I go to certain places because a)I always wanted to go there b)my friends been there and recommend it and I never thought of going there but now upon checking I really love it c)I can take amazing pictures because of the beautiful surroundings, landscape, breathtaking views
3. Once you decide what places you going visit , you now should be able to know what sort of clothes you are going to need, including the style and colours
4. For my yoga holidays the plan was as follow:
Spain
35 degrees max
Villas on the top of the hill, surrounded with no shops, bars or places of interest for that matter
A week stay
2 yoga classes a day spread across 5 days, including a day off
I ended up with buying lots of different yoga outfits, because I had a vision I am going to sweat a lot, and obviously you need a fresh set for every day, I bought 3 different bras, few t-shirts and leggings, all that I can mix and match together.
I knew my day off will be the opportunity to go out, visit some new place and take amazing pictures. The place I had in mind was a little town called Comares, on the outskirts of Malaga, with a breathtaking background of little white houses. I have chosen a red dress as in my opinion that look good with white background , accompanying with a sunhat and big bold earrings which are so fashion this year. In fact I got a few different pairs because I have just fallen in love with them.
I have also taken another dress which I really love and I knew I have to find a place to take a picture wearing it.
I have taken 2 more dresses simply because I loved them and hoped will have opportunity to wear them
Shoes; I have taken one pair of trainers, as not so much for yoga but for walks up and down the hill every morning to do our practise as well, taking long walk up and down the village with my friends which we randomly did after breakfast or dinner. Flip flops of course, for the around swimming pool purpose , a pair or two of nice sandals that go with the dresses I have chosen, in terms of the space and practicality, I have choosen one that are very flat and take little or none space in my luggage, as well as one pair of high heel wedges which are my all time favourite. I wasn’t sure I was going to wear them and yes, I ended up not wearing them, but still good to have one.
Going for a week and taking few yoga outfits, 4 pair of shoes, 2 dresses/1 jumpsuit for dinner time, 3 dresses for pictures, one set of just tshirt and shorts if it happens we go on a longer trip that includes lots of walking. Having lots of sporty yoga outfits I could use them too so I didn’t go super crazy taking more sporty clothing. Every new place I go I always buy a new tshirt with a meaningful, unique slogan, like “positive vibes” and my times ultimate tote zara bag with” live your life to the fullest.”
I give each of my holidays a new meaning, a new purpose and new memory which yes will be surrounded by the slogan from my t-shirt, not literally but something to remember when you back home and flip through the pictures.
The only thing I didn’t think of is that evenings and morning will happen to be quite cold and cheeled, and I didn’t take any long sleeve garments with me, I was fine, I mean I used the yoga blanket for the morning practice whenever my body was shivering but I learned my lesson, always and always take a jumper, cardigan, long sleeve top, even if you going to a very hot place
Another trip which I have taken recently was Egypt in April 2018. Amazing holidays, incredible cheap and rewarding,we had a time of our lifes over there and always will remember that time as if my dream finally came true to see the pyramids.
I have gathered an enormous collection of clothing for that trip, it happened to be in april and there was a lot of beautiful clothes in the shop which I couldn’t resist. I suppose to take half of them and half leave at home for another trip but I ended up taking most of them with me hoping to find enough places and backgrounds for all of them.
Egypt was hot at that time, I knew I will be going to see the pyramids, I always associated Egypt with colours of a desert, I knew I would like to wear whites, cream, beige, brownish, this sort of colours, some of my outfits did represent that but some of them I’ve just taken because I really liked them, I ended up wearing a jeans and colourful tshirt when visiting the pyramids, never thought that would look good but actually it did, because if I wore browns and beiges I would just fade and disappear into the background which was the same colour. My outfit popped out on the picture and I was very happy with the end results. I have also chosen a beautiful white dress with small embroidery on the shoulders which was perfect for the purpose of the picture taken.
When you go on holidays always think about the background. Every country I’ve been to , many of them has their own colours , has their own background, search the internet, type Egypt if you go to Egypt, check it out what colour is overtaking most of the pictures, check places you want to see and imagine yourself there, imagine how the picture would look like if you were that particular outfit
Some examples here:
Egypt – places of interest; pyramids, desert, camels, diving, colours that will look good with brown, beige, yellowish: white dress, greens, browns, vivid colours ect.
Spain- places of interest; Comares, villa, pool, mountain/lake view, swimming pool; clothes: red dress for comares, red swimming costume for the pool, lots of yoga outfits with colourful, funky patters, few types of dresses I like
My next trip which im already planning is Bali in December. I already know what I would like to see which includes few days of yoga retreat, jungle swings, infinity pool, waterfalls, rice terraces. The colours of Bali are beautiful deep bottle green with green waters of infinity pool and jungle surroundings.
I am planning to take lots of red colours with me but also whites and blacks which will look great if I happen to take a picture when visiting rice fields.
5. Always look good no matter what other people think and say to you. You can look awesome and be awesome, you can wear red lipstick and still get in a zone , a deep state of meditation. Clothes has nothing to do with what you do as long as you doing properly and with genuine passion and interest.
